How I'm Blooming Boldly - Slow & Steady Steps This Spring

Tammy Jo Schoppet

"Blooming boldly means trusting your quiet growth, showing up before you feel ready, and letting God shape the journey—even when it doesn’t look like progress yet."

Spring always brings me back to this idea of quiet, steady growth. The kind that doesn’t scream for attention but still shows up fully and unapologetically—like flowers pushing through the soil just doing what they’re meant to do.

That’s been on my heart a lot lately: what it means to bloom boldly—especially when things feel uncertain or slow or even a little messy. So I thought I’d share a few things I’ve been learning in hopes that it might encourage you too.

1. Start small—seriously
I used to think bold moves had to be big. But honestly, most of my growth has come from small steps that no one else even sees. Things like finishing a piece I was tempted to abandon, or sending out a message I’ve been sitting on too long (like this one!).

Bold doesn’t mean flashy. Sometimes it’s just showing up anyway.

2. Let go of what’s weighing you down
Before anything blooms, there’s always a little clearing that has to happen. That could be mental clutter, perfectionism, or old stories that keep replaying in the back of your mind. I’ve had to do some of that clearing lately, and while it’s not always fun, it’s made space for better things to grow.

3. Trust the slow, imperfect process
Making pottery has taught me so much about trusting the process. Clay changes. Glazes surprise you. Pieces crack. And yet—when I stay with it, something meaningful always comes through. That’s how I want to grow too. Not rushed. Just rooted.

4. Stay close to what brings true light
I’m realizing how important it is to stay close to the things that reflect God's presence and bring peace to my soul—sunlight, music, creative time, honest conversations, and moments of stillness with God. When we lean into what nourishes our spirit and keeps us grounded in truth, that’s where real strength and growth begin.

5. Don’t wait to feel “ready”
There’s rarely a perfect moment. I’m learning to prepare well, trust the work I’ve done, and still show up—flaws and all. When I’m creating pottery, it’s often the imperfect lines that bring life to the piece. They flow with the intentional ones and make the whole thing beautiful. It’s the same with us—boldness grows when we let go of needing to be flawless and just move forward with faith.

So if you need a little reminder today...
This is your season to bloom. Not by force, not to impress anyone—but because you were created to grow. To shine. To live with joy and courage and hope, even when things feel uncertain.

And I’m right there with you—learning, stretching, and blooming one day at a time.

Love & Blessings,

Tammy Jo
